The visa route, and where to check it
Both routes are common
Malaysian travellers use both the individual eVisa route and licensed operators, depending on how they are travelling. Check the official portal for the current position on your passport, and the Nusuk registry for any operator you are considering.

What catches out pilgrims travelling from here
- Low-cost long-haul fares to Jeddah look excellent until baggage is added, and pilgrims carry more on the way home than on the way out. Price the return allowance you will actually need.
- A nine-hour overnight arriving in the morning is the kindest schedule available from Kuala Lumpur — it gets you to Makkah in daylight with a night’s sleep behind you.
- Ramadan capacity from KUL sells out earlier than the fare-comparison sites suggest, because operator charters take blocks off the market that never appear in a public search.
Once you have the flight
Work out where to stay from the walking-distance table rather than from a search sorted by “distance from centre”, and check the season calendar before fixing your dates.
