- Düsseldorf (DUS) and Berlin (BER) — usually a one-stop connection rather than a direct service

The visa route, and where to check it
Usually the tourist eVisa
German passport holders normally travel on the Saudi tourist eVisa. Terms differ by passport and change between seasons, so confirm on the official portal — and note that a residence permit rather than citizenship can change the route entirely.

What catches out pilgrims travelling from here
- Turkish Airlines and Gulf connections from smaller German airports frequently beat a Frankfurt direct on total cost, and the extra hours are less punishing on a six-hour sector than on a twelve.
- German operators quote packages with the hotel named only as a category. Ask for the property, then check its walk time in our distance table before comparing prices between agents.
- Book the Haramain train yourself rather than accepting a coach transfer in a package. The price difference is small and the time difference is three hours.
Once you have the flight
Work out where to stay from the walking-distance table rather than from a search sorted by “distance from centre”, and check the season calendar before fixing your dates.
